What are Sensory Toys?

As the name suggests, sensory toys are toys that stimulate a child’s senses. They are physical, non-electronic toys designed to develop your child’s fine motor skills, while encouraging them to play, explore, learn and of course have fun! Sensory play is a concept introduced by Montessori teaching principles, which believe in allowing children to learn through experiencing and exploring their natural environment.

A perfect example of a sensory toy are our sensory boards, sometimes also called activity boards or busy boards. They are wooden boards with a multitude of fun objects and activities mounted to them. Our sensory boards include real-life gadgets and objects that children are naturally drawn to, such as doorhandles, locks, spinning cogs and wheels, zippers, velcro, light-switches, bells and more, giving them a safe and controlled space to explore and play with these items.

Sensory toys also give children a welcome break from digital screen-time, which is becoming an ever-present challenge for parents today.

All of our sensory boards are eco-friendly, hand-assembled and made with non-toxic paints and materials.

They are recommended for children 3 years and above.
